Chine Colle (French for thin paper collage) enables you to add colour and pattern to the background of your print, adding a more decorative element. It can be done alongside both relief and intaglio printing methods. It is a method that came from the Orient and uses fine papers.

You will learn how to lino cut and print a design on the theme of “Plants and Pods” as these can give lots of opportunity for use of collaged materials and mark making.

You will be given a demonstration of lino cutting and print your design in black ink. You will then select from a range of papers and be shown how to use these to enhance the print. The papers will be bonded to a support and the design printed on top.

All relief printing materials will be provided along with a range of fine papers but if you would like to bring some of your own interesting papers, tissue, foils along then that will make your work more individual. Papers should be thin and handmade papers are excellent.
